SOME KINDA FUNNY
Recorded in 1998
Fourteen brand new songs.

- ODD MAN OUT
is a parlor game song, having something to do with romance, that
we have been singing for a couple years now. It's become one
of our most requested numbers.
- GLORIOUS PREDICTION was written about a year and a half ago, inspired
by two well dressed strangers who left a religious pamphlet at
the front door.
- HISTORY OF LANGUAGE is a hard song to describe. Lou sings this loopy
historical piece, subtitled the Language of History.
- AUNT EMILY
is a sequel, or perhaps more of a prequel, to the song Waltzing
With Bears. Not very like any of the other songs on this CD,
it has a very singable nonsense chorus which has proven to keep
people awake at night.
- GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY delivers the news the way it would sound if the
world were set up more to our specifications. Mentions the Pope,
tornadoes, prison, candy, plum puree, fusion, ozone, and velour.
- DO YOU BELIEVE IN ME suggests to whom you should turn in hard times,
and more important, to whom you shouldn't turn. It uses the Tooth
Fairy and Santa as examples. This is one of our favorites.
- MAIDEN VOYAGE
is very new, having been written this year. Here a mother is
telling her daughter the story of how she met the girl's dad
on a cruise ship in the Bahamas; a story of affection through
affliction.
- THE STUFF SONG
was also written this year, and was inspired by a conversation
about writing a will. But fortunately, that's not what the song
is about.
- THE UNFULFILLED SNEEZE has been kicking around in our repertoire for
three or four years now. It's an imitation Stephen Foster song
about allergies, pepper and loss.
- HEARD ABOUT THE HEAT is a Wisconsin song that we sing from coast to
coast, written to warn people about the dangers of moving to
our state.
- GOOD NIGHT EVERYBODY is a song not meant to be particularly funny,
which is a rarity for us. But it isn't a sad song, either. It's
just a song; a sort of lullaby, as you can probably tell from
the title.
- POET IN LOVE
is one for the navel gazers, with something of a warning in the
chorus. This is our imitation Leonard Cohen song for this recording,
which is beginning to be a habit with us.
- RED KIMONO
isn't a complete laff riot but it isn't a lead weight either.
It's a waltz about luck, gratitude, and perspective. It features
dipsticks, big shoes, love, Cleveland, Rover the Dog, Mother
Theresa, and more.
- YOU BLOT OUT THE FUTURE is our imitation country-western Zen song about
romance and its ability to keep consciousness in the present.
Also features gin.
